Prosense Ammonia(NH3) Gas Detection
Ammonia is a common chemical used in cleaning products, fertilizer, and commercial and industrial refrigeration. Ammonia can be very effective in keeping food & beverages at the proper temperatures and preferred due to low GWP and ODP values. But brings risks as it is highly toxic and combustible. Ammonia has a pungent odour, is colourless, toxic, highly reactive and corrosive. Ammonia can be in compressed liquid form and reacts with water very quickly that can cause serious damage to skin, eyes, and the respiratory system. Ammonia gas is lighter than air and accumulates at ceiling side when leaked. It is also flammable above 15% by volume.
Ammonia can affect people when inhaled that is why ammonia detector should be used to monitor ammonia level in the workplace. Contact can severely irritate and burn the skin and eyes with possible eye damage. Inhaling ammonia can irritate the nose, throat and lungs. High concentration exposures may generate build-up of fluid in the lungs. Repeated exposure may cause asthma like allergy and lead to lung damage. Contact with liquid ammonia can cause frostbite. To prevent health related issues it is necessary to monitor ammonia level in the environment via ammonia gas detectors.
Two separate ammonia detectors are required to manage workplace safety related to toxic risks and explosion risk as their detection method and ranges are different. For toxic risks PPM range detector is necessary to generate alarms and initiating ventilation operation to keep workplace air clean and safe. Also LEL range detector is necessary to eliminate explosion risk.
Prosense provides fixed ammonia gas detectors that can be configured based on different application requirements. Prosense provides PPM range ammonia detectors equipped with electrochemical sensors in 0-100PPM and 0-1000PPM ranges. Prosense also provides 0-100LEL range Ammonia detectors equipped with pellistor sensor to monitor explosion risk.
